Bikeable Planet Gear - Support the Show

I'm gearing up to begin filming for the relaunch of the Bikeable Planet video podcast. Hopefully, I'll begin having some "Quick Releases" out next month with full-episodes soon to follow. Along with the podcast, I'll be creating a bike commuting community here on this site. I've got a lot of really cool features I'm excited about...but can't tell you about just yet. The vision for the video podcast is to provide bicycle commuting tips and information to people interested in getting into or getting better at bike commuting, a look into the issues, successes, and challenges of the world of bicycle transportation and transportation policy, and some entertaining peaks into bicycle culture and the bicycle lifestyle. Ultimately, my hope is to be able to travel to different cities…

My Biggest Obstacle to Bike Commuting

I've bike commuted at differing levels of intesity over the past few years. For some periods of time, I biked everywhere I went. Other times, I'd find myself driving places where riding my bike would've been easy to do. Thinking about this made me wonder what the difference was? When I first started bike commuting, I figured the things that would prevent me from bike commuting more would be obstacles like weather, hills, temperature, vehicle traffic, my fitness level, etc. I'm sure a lot of people interested in bike commuting feel the same way. However, after commuting by bicycle for several years, I've realized that none of these obstacles have every really stood in my way. It didn't take long to realize that weather is really not a big deal. If you dress properly, rain or cold or heat doesn't damper your commuting experience very much at…

Capturing My Commuting Imagination: Trek’s Gary Fisher Collection Transport+

I'm a gadget and tech and guy. In fact, I love gear of all sorts. From phones to computers to backpacks and boots to, yes, bicycles, gear and technology grabs my attention in a way that little else does. I love the way that new pieces of technology spark my imagination and connect with me. I love the way that great gear has the ability to provoke me to imagine myself and my world in new and better ways. One of the most influential pieces of technology I have encountered, along with a LOT of other people, has been Apple's iPhone. Regardless of whether or not Apple's platform should be open or if it should have Flash capabilities or if AT&T is turrible, the possibilities that this new piece of technology opened up really changed the…
